Access to Chubu airport
Most major airports are really simple to access with a Japan Rail Pass. With Narita Airport you have the Narita Express, otherwise known as the N'Ex; with Haneda, the Monorail. From Kansai Airport, the JR Haruka Express will provide access to both Osaka and Kyoto, as well as transfers to other cities.
Chubu International Airport, located just outside of Nagoya, is still new, having opened in 2005. It's a clean, bright, and easy-to-use airport, but for rail pass holders, its only downside is that there is no JR access to this airport.
Instead, you will need to take the Meitetsu train from the airport to Nagoya Station, a 28-minute train ride. Note that if you are looking up timetables on Hyperdia, Chubu Airport's station name is Central Japan International Airport and the Meitetsu area of Nagoya Station is listed as Meitetsunagoya.
Once you have arrived at Meitetsu Nagoya, the JR Station is just next door! From JR Nagoya Station, you can then exchange your rail pass voucher, take a shinkansen, or other trains such as the Hida Limited Express up to Takayama.
