Ooiwa 大岩
Taste preamble
Fried skewers of fish, meat, or vegetables surrounded by a thin layer of breadcrumbs, kushi katsu, to be dipped in a sauce, are best enjoyed in the evening as an appetizer.
Often served in popular restaurants, especially in Osaka, Ooiwa's kushi katsu is lavish and tastier than the rest... The ambiance of the restaurant and the location, a kura or previously a warehouse of antiques from large estates is a unique experience.
You can take a seat at the counter, ordering them individually from the thirty different varieties, or request an "omakase " where the chef will carefully select the menu for you.
Stop at ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five small bites… Accompanied by lemon, salt, soy sauce, or sweet oyster sauce, Ooiwa skewers are simply delicious. As a pretext for a first meal, kushikatsu are savored, before ending the evening elsewhere. Not far away, Bar K6 can be a threat watering hole after the meal.
