Mount Shibutsu 至仏山
A health walk
Mount Shibutsu has a strategic position, between the marsh of Oze and the prefecture of Gunma: it is an opportunity to go from the first to the second during a stimulating ascent but far from being insurmountable!
Sorry for late-morning fans, but in order to avoid the hottest hours of the day (and impromptu sunburn), the ascent of Mount Shibutsu begins at 5am . The summit is over 2,000 meters above sea level , but the climb is only supposed to take three hours, three and a half hours for the slower. In fact, the path is certainly rocky but it is very easy to follow. It is also replaced by wooden stairs as soon as the path gets tougher . Large iron chains have even been added to the most difficult passages. The descent is done in two short hours , quietly. There too, there are wooden stairs to facilitate the way. After the first burst of stairs, you will find a clear path that is easier to navigate than on the way out. The ascent of Mount Shibutsu is therefore accessible to beginner hikers!

Unforgettable landscapes
Even if, at first glance, these five hours of hiking may seem long to you, you will not see the time pass as the landscapes that will pass before your eyes are breathtaking: between the peaks of the surrounding mountains, the rocky path, the green meadows below and the flowers of the purple and yellow mountains, you won't know where to turn! Along with your sunscreen and water bottle (both mandatory), don't forget your bento : usually, hikers take a lunch break once they reach the summit, while admiring the view above the clouds . You will not be disappointed: above you, the blue sky and below, in addition to the fluffy clouds, you will have a breathtaking view of the valley, the rocks, and even of several natural waterfalls.
Summer or winter, it's up to you!
The Hatomachi-toge hiking trail does not open until mid-April until November. You can also take the Yama no Hana trail, which is reserved exclusively for climbing. You can still go there in winter, to ski down Mount Shibutsu. Try to avoid the famous Golden Week , as much because of the crowds as the weather , because even in May, the summit of Mount Shibutsu is covered in snow. If you are chilly, it is best to wait until the beginning of summer to start climbing.

Climbing Mount Shibutsu is therefore one of the "must-do's" of Oze National Park , which offers you a sportier alternative to the trails that run through the Ozegahara swamp .
