On the 21st and 22nd of every month, Shitennoji comes alive. In this thousand-year-old temple is a monthly market displaying hundred-year-old antiques.
Wooden sculptures, kimonos, porcelain... a delight for visitors wanting to bring home a piece of Japan. With over three hundred stalls, wandering along the paths takes time, and you become hungry... but no problem! Countless food stalls are offering regional favorites such as takoyaki (octopus dumplings) or okonomiyaki (savory pancakes).
Furthermore, often for the modest sum of 1,000 yen ($9/8€), vintage, second-hand objects are on display for sale. Here, even the locals take advantage of the bargains, so it's a good idea to check it out.
