Every first Saturday of August, the east of Tokyo is "on fire" and recalls its existence to the city center. The Edogawa fireworks claim to compete with the biggest fireworks in the capital, including the famous Sumida Festival, which takes place a week earlier, on the last weekend of July. Plan to arrive early since the site is somewhat out of center and attracts crowds. More than 450 000 people compete for the best vantage points from early afternoon. Be warned.
